Week of April 24

The +10 Mindset
From Left: Chaice Weatherford,
The road to excellence never ends.  To the right, our tennis team continues to excel. Tennis Coach Greg Morrison had a playoff to make the state tournament with his 2 boys' doubles teams.  Chaice Weatherford and Cameron Armstrong took 2nd to go to state and Nolan Henderson and Caleb Partridge took 3rd as alternate.

Track Update
Coach Andrew Carlson and his assistants (Coaches Mathers, Ball, Brummett, Seamans)  have done a great job of helping our athletes excel. Over the last 2 weeks our track teams have excelled, and their accolades are highlighted in this post.  Please scroll up and down and see how well our kids performed.

Yearbook Excels
Congratulations to Mrs. Todd and our Yearbook Staff for winning Honorable Mention in Balfour's Yearbook Contest for 2016.  This is the third year in a row that Blue Ridge ISD has received this recognition.

BRISD sees Growth in STAAR
STAAR Highlights from 5 & 8 Testing
Results from our first round of STAAR testing in grades 5 and 8 came back this week.  Currently there is no comparison data to the state or Region 10’s performance, so we will not be able to fully gauge our growth until that data is retrieved.  In our first year of implementing a growth mindset about student achievement, we are proud of the growth we saw in our results.  Our teachers worked very hard to teach our kids and motivate them to grow in their performance. Here are some highlights of the data to share with you.

  • In 8th grade math, our students increased in passing performance by 19 points, meeting grade level by 25 points and mastering grade level by 9 points.
  • In 8th grade reading, our students increased in passing performance by 5 points, meeting grade level by 19 points and mastering grade level by 7 points
  • In 5th grade math, our students increased in passing performance by 12 points, meeting grade level by 5 points and mastering grade level by 3 points.
  • In 5th grade reading, our students improved by 2 points in mastering grade level.
  • 74% of 5th and 8th graders met and exceeded growth in learning.
  • 25% of 5th and 8th graders exceeding growth in learning.
STAAR testing continues on May 1-5 for HS students and May 8-12 for ES and MS students.
