Week of May 1

Congrats to Dr. Scott Leslie, for being named
97.5 KLAK Teacher of the Month.  He is
an outstanding educator who represents Blue
Ridge ISD well through his words and actions.
The +10 Mindset starts with Teacher Excellence
The week of May 8-12 is Teacher Appreciation Week.  As we prepare for this week, we would like to
recognize and celebrate all of our teachers and staff because they are doing great things for our students each and every day.  After all our student success starts by having the best teachers and staff members serving our students and one another.

JOIN US - This week, I would like to invite you on Tuesday to tell your story about the great things that BRISD does for our students, staff, and community.  On Tuesday, please use your Facebook and Twitter to celebrate each staff member for their hard work and with each post we will use the hashtags, #TxEdTuesday.

NEXT WEEK is STAAR EOC Week at BRHS

Parents, make sure your student gets plenty of rest for EOC. Did you know that earning a score of 63 on the Algebra 1 test will make your student college ready and eligible to take dual credit math as a junior or senior.  Here are the dates of the tests:

  • Algebra 1 - Tuesday, May 2
  • Biology - Wednesday, May 3
  • US History - Thursday, May 4
Make sure your child get plenty of rest the night before the test.  Ensure they get a good breakfast with protein.  Protein energizes the brain, and make sure your child gets lots of encouragement and motivation.  Motivation can add 10 points on any test.

Check out the learning in Mrs. Stephens' class.  This week she had an incubator
with chicken eggs, and they hatched!!!  See the excitement of our students
learning about the life cycle of a chicken.

BRISD sees Growth in STAAR
STAAR Highlights from 5 & 8 Testing
Results from our first round of STAAR testing in grades 5 and 8 came back this week.  Currently there is no comparison data to the state or Region 10’s performance, so we will not be able to fully gauge our growth until that data is retrieved.  In our first year of implementing a growth mindset about student achievement, we are proud of the growth we saw in our results.  Our teachers worked very hard to teach our kids and motivate them to grow in their performance. Here are some highlights of the data to share with you.

  • In 8th grade math, our students increased in passing performance by 19 points, meeting grade level by 25 points and mastering grade level by 9 points.
  • In 8th grade reading, our students increased in passing performance by 5 points, meeting grade level by 19 points and mastering grade level by 7 points
  • In 5th grade math, our students increased in passing performance by 12 points, meeting grade level by 5 points and mastering grade level by 3 points.
  • In 5th grade reading, our students improved by 2 points in mastering grade level.
  • 74% of 5th and 8th graders met and exceeded growth in learning.
  • 25% of 5th and 8th graders exceeding growth in learning.
STAAR testing continues on May 1-5 for HS students and May 8-12 for ES and MS students.

Week of April 10

The +10 Mindset - #LoveMySchoolDay
Tuesday, April 11 marks the 4th year of a world-wide event I started with a few other educators #LoveMySchoolDay.  It is actually an opportunity for educators, students, parents and community members to use the power of social media to tell the real story about our schools.  During this legislative session, I encourage you to join me in telling our legislators about the great things that are happening in BRISD and advise them on the action you would like to see taken to better support schools.
around the nation called

To the right is a post by BRISD Parent and PTO President, Denise Avery that is a perfect example of telling your story of public education.  Sure, our little district is not perfect, and we have room for improvement.  The point that I would like to make is that we all grow with encouragement and when we share the positives happening in our schools, it allows us to address our weaknesses with balance and more importantly with our eyes clearly fixed on doing what's best for ALL kids.  I hope you will join us on Facebook and Twitter for #LoveMySchoolDay on Tuesday, April 11 as we celebrate the Excellence in BRISD.

Check out this #LoveMySchoolDay video by Mrs. Raymer's AVP Class and share it with your friends.
